About
ParabenFree.org is a resource created to help educate people of the dangers of these toxic cosmetic additives. We at ParabenFree.org believe that topically applied products should contain no health-threatening ingredients.
Terms You Should Know:
Greenwashing: A gross exaggeration of a company or product’s eco-friendliness. For example, adding one natural ingredient to a sythetic mix and labelling the product “natural.”
Parabens: A widely used chemical preservative, parabens are used to extend a product’s shelf-life. Known to be toxic, causing many allergic reactions and skin rashes. Parabens are endocrine disrupters and may disturb the hormonal balance in the body. They have been found in breast cancer tumours, but it is not known if they played a part in causing the tumours. EWG: The Environmental Group, a non-profit education and research based firm that is singlehandedly changing the face of the beauty industry: “What alarms consumer-advocacy groups is that cosmetic products and ingredients are not subject to pre-market approval by the Food and Drug Administration, with the exception of color additives. That means only a small percentage of the more than 10,000 chemical ingredients in personal-care products contain substances that have been tested for safety, and those tests are overseen by industry groups, not the federal government.”
